I have to be up-front with you, because the data is crazy. Your odds of getting the body you want are less than 1%. Across 3 recently published studies, nobody loses even 5% of their weight, or puts on any meaningful muscle, and the few that do can't even hold onto it for one year (JAMA 2023, Lancet 2026, Frontiers in Sports 2026).
Walk into any commercial gym, training studio, or weight loss clinic and look at the staff. The trainers and nutritionists all look like they have 10-30 pounds to lose. That's how hard this is, and it isn't your fault.

A 2026 analysis of 67 studies found the minimum: four hard sets per muscle per week to add any measurable muscle at all. It also found a dose-dependent response, with a 100% probability that muscle and strength keep rising with every session you add.
“Hard sets” means getting within a few reps of failure. That rules out group classes, pilates, yoga, cycling, and bootcamps. All inexpensive options that are great for socially burning calories. But they do nothing for strength, the butt, the arms, or the skinny fat.
You need 10 to 20 hard sets per muscle per week to substantially improve your physique. That is not possible in under three sessions a week. Most people need four to six.
Say you find the rare trainer who accommodates your busy schedule, inspires you, keeps you accountable, and actually knows how to correctly program for your goal. How do you pay for the three to six sessions per week it takes to deliver the results? In Bergen County, that would run you a whopping $1,500 to $3,600 per month.

The fitness industry needs you confused. The research isn't confusing at all. There are decades of controlled human trials on weight loss and they all land in the same place.
One clarification before we keep going. People tell us all the time, “I don't want to lose weight, I just want to look better. Be more toned. Have nicer arms.” It's the same thing. Weight loss here means reducing body fat. A skinny person who wants to look better in a bathing suit is asking for the same outcome as someone with fifty pounds to lose.
So you have to lose body fat, but it isn't about which diet is best. Not fasting, not keto, not meal timing. It's also not about supplements, your age, or your metabolism. Eat fewer calories than you burn and body fat goes down. Simple. Not easy.
It's mind-boggling that the personal training industry will take your money and in exchange promise you results, but offer nothing in terms of nutrition coaching. Trainers don't even record workouts and certainly have no interest in offering you accountability for your diet.
Instead you pay for it separately. Some gyms sell cookie-cutter meal plans as an upsell. Or you hire a nutritionist you see twice a month, who gives you an opinion and then doesn't see you eat a single meal in between. Or you get on a GLP-1 and pay for it out of pocket or in copays. Every one is another bill, and none of them are there to guide you through Saturday night.

How the heck do you hold the line in a world built to distract you? How do you say no to the cake at your best friend's birthday party? How do you get to sleep at the same time every night, or to the gym at least three times per week, while juggling a full-time job and two kids?
Where can you even find someone to hire who checks off all the boxes? You couldn't. Until now.
We designed an evidence-based, all-inclusive program and priced it as one affordable flat rate, so that cost is never the reason you train less or get less access to the coaching, tracking, and accountability you need. Here’s what it includes:

Even though we offer every possible advantage for you to succeed, it still isn't enough on its own. You have to be the one who decides to make a real change for yourself. You need to fully commit, and you need to be prepared to make sacrifices. You have to accept that your choices and your behavior will be different from those of your family and your friends. That's what it costs to be the 1% that succeeds.

Are you ready to get into the best shape of your life? If you are, we would be glad to do it with you. Book your free assessment now to lock in this rate, so that we can meet you, learn about you, and walk you through the program.

$199 buys unlimited cardio in a room with other people. It buys zero sets taken close to failure, which is the only input that changes your arms, your glutes, or the skinny fat. Cheap is only cheap if it does the thing you came for. More on this
The more you train, the better the results. See why you need at least 3x/week
Limiting session length is counterproductive. Your per-session volume and recovery, plus your phase of training, all decide how long it takes.
We build from scratch to match your specific requirements.
Beginners through advanced. Athletes, seniors, women's health, pre/post pregnancy, rehab/injuries.
And this is the worst part. Every session is randomly decided by your trainer at the time. No planning or tracking. No way to consistently measure progress.
And this is the worst part. Every session is randomly decided by your trainer at the time. No planning or tracking. No way to consistently measure progress.
Everyone in the room does the same workout. Nothing is built for you, nothing is tracked, and there's no way to know whether you're progressing.
Body fat, lean mass, posture report, and much more data for tracking progress.
We keep the same routine for 6 weeks so we can measure growth by watching your performance on the same exercises each week. That's how programming is supposed to work.
Then we sit down and go through all of it. The scan data, where you're getting stuck, your goals for the next 6 weeks. We swap out stale exercises and re-optimize the program from there.
If you're being coached on nutrition, we do a full diet review at the same time.
Customized dietary guidelines, goal setting, app tracking, and weekly check-ins at minimum.
High-intensity cardio-style training is great for burning calories, but your diet is what decides fat loss and tone. You can't outrun a bad diet, and nobody there is coaching you on what to eat. More on this
Fine for running a class. Not qualified to program for body composition.
And we'll still help you find a gym and coach you remotely at no extra cost.

I joined this gym in the new year. I’ve been a member of various other gyms and relatively fit and active my whole life. I have never used a personal trainer before. Pat is incredible!
This is the best personal training deal you’re going to find. Tamir has figured out a way to make PT affordable and effective.
UTG has been such a great experience! Going to the gym before UTG meant cardio and fumbling with some machines without any plan or goal.
I've been going to UTG for three years. My tenure there alone speaks to my appreciation for my trainer and the facility. Timmy is always accessible. More importantly, he stays on top of my progress.
I started working out at UTG about a month and a half ago and have already made a lot of progress thanks to the great trainers there. Workouts are personally tailored and goal-oriented. The help with food and diet is also awesome.
I’ve been someone who has just “gone to the gym” for the last few years now, but never really had the structure or plan to see real results.
Joining UTG has been a truly transformative experience for me, and I could not recommend it enough. Coming from someone who was intimidated by a gym setting, I have never felt more comfortable in a gym and with the trainers here.
What I appreciate about UTG is they provide you a customized approach to achieve the results you are looking for in a family type environment. I am the type of person that needs structure and accountability to keep me going.
Hands down, best choice I’ve made training at UTG. VERY friendly & Excellent personal training. Trainers who really care and go above and beyond to help you achieve your goals.
I just wanted to take a moment to thank Pat for the great sessions at the gym. Pat’s enthusiasm and great positive attitude have made the training sessions enjoyable and engaging. Pat ensures that my techniques are always correct.
I am having a great experience training with UTG and highly recommend to anyone who is looking for trainers that are highly knowledgeable, professional, and committed to helping you achieve your goals.
UTG has been one of the best investments of my life. If you're ready to transform and strengthen your mind and body, this is the best place to start.
Incredible gym. Tamir, Pat, and Timmy are always on point and great at what they do. They’re super attentive and always making sure you’re on right track to whatever your personal fitness goals are.
Tamir is arguably the most consistent person I know. For that reason - among others - I highly recommend UTG. Tamir’s commitment to my goals somehow surpasses my own.
I had never trained at a gym prior to going to UTG and found it to be a nice cozy fit for me. All patrons know each other and interact so warmly, keeping the atmosphere light and positively energized.

Patrick starts every client with a movement screen and creates programs optimized for individual characteristics. He teaches squat, hinge, and press patterns to teenage athletes who have never held a barbell. He rebuilds loading tolerance for clients finishing physical therapy and trains adults past sixty against sarcopenia and bone density loss.

Andrew programs for body (re)composition, which means designing routines that help individuals reduce body fat while simultaneously holding onto (or growing) lean muscle tissue. This is particularly useful for GLP-1 patients. He runs sophisticated periodized training blocks that are unique to each client and tracks recovery to protect against plateaus, injuries, and excessive fatigue.

With over 15 years of coaching experience, Tamir designs comprehensive, evidence-based training and nutrition protocols. He specializes in women’s health, menopausal fitness, senior longevity and strength programming, and competitive physique preparation. Tamir’s science-first approach cuts through the noise of the fitness industry.

A 2026 analysis of 67 studies put the minimum at four hard sets per muscle per week just to add any muscle or strength at all. The same analysis found a 100% probability that gains keep rising with every session you add, so more is better as long as you recover from it.
You really need 10 to 20 sets per muscle per week to substantially improve. That is not possible in under three sessions. The sweet spot is usually between four and six sessions per week. In Bergen County, three to six sessions per week would cost you $1,500 to $3,600 per month.
With our pricing model at $829 flat, three sessions per week works out to about $69 a session. Six per week is about $35.
Other trainers don't customize, plan, or track your workouts. They don't offer nutrition coaching. We include it all. See the full comparison
For strength and muscle, how hard you train outranks both volume and frequency. A 2024 series of meta-regressions in Sports Medicine found a straight dose response: the closer a set is taken to failure, the more you build. However, we also want to account for form, range of motion, and proper recovery management.
If you are completely new to training, we will build your baseline slowly to protect your joints and avoid injury. Training hard does not mean lifting dangerously heavy. It means lifting a manageable weight to within 2 to 5 reps of failure on every set.
This is exactly why high-intensity classes like Orangetheory, Crossfit, and bootcamps fail to deliver real body composition changes. They completely miss the things that matter: lifting weights, getting close to failure, recovery, form, and doing it all consistently.
You won't be alone - you'll find every type of person here, wherever you are in your journey. Our culture is warm, encouraging and genuinely friendly.
Proper periodization is unique to each individual. That's what the consultation is for... to learn about your goals and requirements.
At minimum we differentiate between beginner/untrained, intermediates, and advanced individuals. It also doesn't matter what anyone else is doing, you'll be on your own unique program.
Women won't, but men will if they train and eat correctly.
There are exceptions, which is why some women do get bigger in some areas from lifting. Uncommon.
The same amount of added muscle that reshapes a man's silhouette will disappear under a woman's, because her subcutaneous fat layer is about twice as thick. What you get as a woman is firmness, definition, and the fuller look that trained muscle carries. The lift without the size.
We offer diet guidance, tracking, motivation, and more. This is optional, you're not required to do it.
Regarding "strictness" - there is simply no evidence that any particular diet outperforms another. The game is all about staying in a calorie deficit. So you can do any diet you want, or just reduce your consumption overall. It doesn't matter.
What actually matters is consistency - and this is where most people struggle. But we will talk strategies with you that fit your lifestyle.
You can freeze your membership while traveling, no charge for time away - and we'll still help you track your workouts and diet, on us!
We are experienced with post-physical therapy, rehab, corrective exercise, and much more. We can design any type of program that works around any issues. No limitations. And we will coordinate with your health provider if necessary.

Lifting weights - you'll feel it within a couple weeks. You'll feel a lot more within the first 4-6 weeks. Quality of life substantially improves fast.
Weight loss is directly correlated with your diet. So as soon as you go into a sustained calorie deficit, you'll see the scale move downward. As long as you persist in a calorie deficit, the scale will continue to move in that direction.
