I have to be up-front with you, because the data is crazy. Your odds of getting the body you want are less than 1%. Across 3 recently published studies, almost nobody loses even 5% of their weight, or puts on any meaningful muscle, and the few that do can't even hold onto it for one year (JAMA 2023, Lancet 2026, Frontiers in Sports 2026).
Walk into any commercial gym, training studio, or weight loss clinic and look at the staff. The trainers and nutritionists all look like they have 10-30 pounds to lose. That's how hard this is, and it isn't your fault.

The fitness industry needs you confused. The research isn't confusing at all. There are decades of controlled human trials on weight loss and they all land in the same place.
It isn't about which diet is best. Not fasting, not keto, not meal timing, not supplements, not your age, not your metabolism. Eat fewer calories than you burn and you lose weight. Simple. Not easy.
Our 15 years of practice with thousands of clients reveals the same obstacles as the science. It's hard to maintain a diet when you have social events to attend, travel for work, and a family to cook for. Sunday through Friday you can get five hours of training in and eat flawlessly. Then Saturday night happens. Someone's birthday, a good restaurant, and the whole week is back to even.

Put aside the fact that trainers don't offer diet coaching, the most crucial component of weight loss. Forget that their credentials are one textbook and one exam. That's all it takes to be nationally certified. Look at how they actually train you.
You'll pay a painful $125 to $150 for 60 minutes, so you'll only go twice a week. Your trainer tells you it's exactly what you need, then hands you burpees, circuits, balance work, cardio, bodyweight, with some machines peppered in. None of that is resistance training. And none of it is written down.
Neither of you knows whether you're getting stronger or building muscle.
Which turns out to matter more than anyone thought. In a study of 304 dieters the group that lifted lost the most fat, and was the only group that gained muscle instead of losing it (Frontiers in Endocrinology, 2026).
But that result is dose-dependent. Three sessions per week minimum, up to six. At $125 to $150 each, that's $1,500 to $3,600 per month.

We designed an evidence-based all-inclusive program and priced it as one affordable flat rate, so that cost is never the reason you train less or get less access to the coaching, tracking, and accountability that you need. Here’s what it includes

Even though we offer every possible advantage for you to succeed, it still isn't enough on its own. You have to be the one who decides to make a real change for yourself. You need to fully commit, and you need to be prepared to make sacrifices. You have to accept that your choices and your behavior will be different from those of your family and your friends. That's what it costs to be the 1% that succeeds.

Are you ready to get into the best shape of your life? If you are, we would be glad to do it with you. Book your free assessment now to lock in this rate, so that we can meet you, learn about you, and walk you through the program.
Book your free assessmentWe broke the fitness industry pricing model so you can finally hit your goals.
$199 buys unlimited cardio in a room with other people. It buys zero sets taken close to failure, which is the only input that changes your arms, your glutes, or the skinny fat. Cheap is only cheap if it does the thing you came for.
The more you train, the better the results. Studies prove lifting does a lot more for fat loss than previously thought. See why you need at least 3x/week
Limiting session length is counterproductive. Your per-session volume and recovery, plus your phase of training, all decide how long it takes.
We build from scratch to match your specific requirements.
Beginners through advanced. Athletes, seniors, women's health, pre/post pregnancy, rehab/injuries.
And this is the worst part. Every session is randomly decided by your trainer at the time. No planning or tracking. No way to consistently measure progress.
And this is the worst part. Every session is randomly decided by your trainer at the time. No planning or tracking. No way to consistently measure progress.
Everyone in the room does the same workout. Nothing is built for you, nothing is tracked, and there's no way to know whether you're progressing.
Body fat, lean mass, posture report, and much more data for tracking progress.
We keep the same routine for 6 weeks so we can measure growth by watching your performance on the same exercises each week. That's how programming is supposed to work.
Then we sit down and go through all of it. The scan data, where you're getting stuck, your goals for the next 6 weeks. We swap out stale exercises and re-optimize the program from there.
If you're being coached on nutrition, we do a full diet review at the same time.
Customized dietary guidelines, goal setting, app tracking, and weekly check-ins at minimum.
High-intensity cardio-style training is great for burning calories, but your diet is what decides fat loss and tone. You can't outrun a bad diet, and nobody there is coaching you on what to eat. More on this
Fine for running a class. Not qualified to program for body composition.
And we'll still help you find a gym and coach you remotely at no extra cost.

I've been blown away by the exceptional service and expertise at UTG. As a gym rookie, I needed guidance, and I wasn't disappointed. I've been a member for 3 months and I've lost nearly 25 pounds.
A Google search led me to Unique Training Group. After dropping 30 pounds on my own through walking and intermittent fasting, I was struggling to lose additional weight to reach a healthy BMI. I knew I needed help, and UTG was the answer.
I love this gym!! I’ve worked with numerous trainers prior to joining UTG and I was never able to hit my weight goals. But Tamir and these guys have brought me real results! I lost 15 lbs in 2 months and feel stronger and leaner already.
I've been at UTG for almost a year now! They have been so helpful and useful. In only 6 months I lost 28 pounds. I didn't even know I had 28 pounds to lose. My strength has grown immensely.
Joining the UTG family was the best decision I made. It has been little over 2 months, i have lost 5% of my body weight and gained strength! I have never felt better. My training sessions are personalized to my abilities.
Have questions about what you should be eating? How many calories you should be intaking in a day? When you should be eating? How much protein you need? When to drink your protein? Ever wonder why you lose weight but then gain it all back?
The team at UTG is awesome! Their approach to fitness and weight loss is attainable, encouraging, and supportive. They helped me get into a solid routine and built accountability for implementing healthy eating habits.
I was so fortunate to find this gym in my journey to lose weight and get fit. UTG’s approach is ideal for me. My goal is to safely shed weight while gaining strength.
Attended UTG with the goal of reducing weight and getting fit and I'm so happy that both my goals were met in a short period of time. Great and knowledgeable trainers, they give perfect direction on workouts.
UTG has been a great experience. With the goal of losing weight and getting stronger, I was nervous to start, but once I did, I felt comfortable and at-home instantly.
I went to these guys 3 months ago and they have changed my life. I now know what I have to do to reach my target weight and achieve the fitness level I want. I am not there yet, but I am well on my way.
I joined about 3 months ago. Yesterday, not only did i do my first dead-lifts, but I felt strong. I lost about 9 lbs so far but more importantly my clothes fit better and I have a lot more energy.
I stumbled across UTG's website one night after aimlessly searching the internet for weight loss advice. As cliche as it sounds, it was unique to anything I've come across.
UTG has completely changed my outlook on weight training from what it used to be. I started seeing a huge difference from the first month itself.
If you want to get stronger, trimmer and lose weight this is the place!!! The trainers at UTG are amazing!

Patrick starts every client with a movement screen and creates programs optimized for individual characteristics. He teaches squat, hinge, and press patterns to teenage athletes who have never held a barbell. He rebuilds loading tolerance for clients finishing physical therapy and trains adults past sixty against sarcopenia and bone density loss.

Andrew programs for body (re)composition, which means designing routines that help individuals reduce body fat while simultaneously holding onto (or growing) lean muscle tissue. This is particularly useful for GLP-1 patients. He runs sophisticated periodized training blocks that are unique to each client and tracks recovery to protect against plateaus, injuries, and excessive fatigue.

With over 15 years of coaching experience, Tamir designs comprehensive, evidence-based training and nutrition protocols. He specializes in women’s health, menopausal fitness, senior longevity and strength programming, and competitive physique preparation. Tamir’s science-first approach cuts through the noise of the fitness industry.

We don't believe in forcing anyone into a contract. We prefer to show you how valuable our service is.
Yes, we create custom meal plans on request, based on your preferences, needs, and lifestyle. But we don't recommend it.
Research favors strict repetitive diets for weight loss, and we agree. But in practice what we see is that most clients struggle to stick with the plan, because of social / lifestyle factors.
If you can't actually adhere to a rigid meal plan long-term, then it simply isn't the right path for you.
We set a calorie goal at your consultation, built from the data we gather about you rather than a cookie-cutter template.
From there, all you have to do is eat generally healthy food - whatever that means for you - and stay under that number. Our job is keeping you inspired, motivated, and accountable while you do it.
We set you up on a food tracking app and monitor it alongside you. Depending on what you need and how much structure you want, we'll review it daily or default to a weekly check-in. We measure once a week to see what's moving and where you're getting stuck.
Every six weeks we pair all that with your 3D body composition scan to look at long-term progress, reassess your goals, and adjust the programming.
And we don't shame anyone for going off plan. Consistency is what makes this work, but nobody is perfect. We'd rather you shake off a bad week and get back to it than sit in it.
Recall from earlier that in a study of 304 dieters the group that lifted lost the most fat, and was the only group that gained muscle instead of losing it (Frontiers in Endocrinology, 2026).
Another 2026 analysis of 67 studies put the minimum at four hard sets per muscle per week just to add any muscle or strength at all. The same analysis found a 100% probability that gains keep rising with every session you add, so more is better as long as you recover from it.
You really need 10 to 20 sets per muscle per week to substantially improve. That is not possible in under three sessions. The sweet spot is usually between four and six sessions per week. In Bergen County, three to six sessions per week would cost you $1,500 to $3,600 per month.
With our pricing model at $829 flat, three sessions per week works out to about $69 a session. Six per week is about $35.
Other trainers don't customize, plan, or track your workouts. They don't offer nutrition coaching. We include it all. See the full comparison
For real body transformations, how hard you train outranks both volume and frequency. A 2024 series of meta-regressions in Sports Medicine found a straight dose response: the closer a set is taken to failure, the more you build. However, those sets must still be executed with a full range of motion, strict form, and proper recovery management.
If you are completely new to training, we will build your baseline slowly to protect your joints and avoid injury. Training hard does not mean lifting dangerously heavy. It means lifting a manageable weight to within 2 to 5 reps of failure on every set.
This is exactly why high-intensity classes like Orangetheory, Crossfit, and bootcamps fail to deliver real body composition changes. They completely miss the things that matter: lifting weights, getting close to failure, recovery, form, and doing it all consistently.
No, but we're not against it either. We just want to make sure you understand priorities.
Cardio being required for weight loss is one of the most persistent myths in fitness, and the math doesn't support it. You can't outrun a bad diet. But eating fewer calories, on its own, reliably moves the scale.
That said, in moderation, cardio on top of a sound lifting and eating program can speed things up. In excess, however, it starts working against you by cutting into recovery.
What about walking?
In theory, any extra movement burns more calories, so it should help as long as your diet stays consistent. In practice, the human data is mixed, because your body compensates for at least a quarter of the work. Add planned activity and you often move less the rest of the day without noticing. You fidget less, you sit more.
So walk because it's good for you and easy to keep up, not because you're banking on the calories. And it's worth repeating that lifting does more for long-term fat loss.
Just tell us the dates and we'll freeze your membership for the time you're away. Tracking and check-ins continue the entire time you're away, frozen or not. You don't pay for any of it.
Travel is where most weight loss plans come apart. It's hard to control your food when you're eating out every night, and hotel gyms rarely have the equipment you need.
So we plan around it. We'll discuss a food plan for the trip, and help you find a gym nearby. Your whole program lives in the app, so you can follow it anywhere.
Women won't, but men will if they train and eat correctly.
There are exceptions, which is why some women do get bigger in some areas from lifting. Uncommon.
The same amount of added muscle that reshapes a man's silhouette will disappear under a woman's, because her subcutaneous fat layer is about twice as thick. What you get as a woman is firmness, definition, and the fuller look that trained muscle carries. The lift without the size.
You won't be alone - you'll find every type of person here, wherever you are in your journey. Our culture is warm, encouraging and genuinely friendly.
Proper periodization is unique to each individual. That's what the consultation is for... to learn about your goals and requirements.
At minimum we differentiate between beginner/untrained, intermediates, and advanced individuals. It also doesn't matter what anyone else is doing, you'll be on your own unique program.
We are experienced with post-physical therapy, rehab, corrective exercise, and much more. We can design any type of program that works around any issues. No limitations. And we will coordinate with your health provider if necessary.

Lifting weights - you'll feel it within a couple weeks. You'll feel a lot more within the first 4-6 weeks. Quality of life substantially improves fast.
Weight loss is directly correlated with your diet. So as soon as you go into a sustained calorie deficit, you'll see the scale move downward. As long as you persist in a calorie deficit, the scale will continue to move in that direction.
